Camp 1

The camp i work at is for mainly under privilidged kids who either come from shattered homes or group homes ect ect. First off, being a camp counsellor in this particular enviroment is both awesome and challenging. Awesome in the sense i'm not dealing with a bunch of snotty nosed christian kids(i love them too) but tiring in the sense it's a 24hr a day job for six days a week. I get roughly an hour off everyday.

So, this week I had nine kids in my cabin with another counsellor and myself in charge. Now, nine kids isn't a ton. But, five of the nine are kids who need one to one attention. So we had one camper who i'll refer to as "josh" because that's his name. Josh snuck under our radar the first night by disguising him self as a mild mannered averaged kid. much to our chagrin the real josh appeared the next day. Day two seen josh throw more tantrums than roger clemens does fastballs. We thought it would be a good idea for everyone to be quiet at lights out, he thought it would be better to cluck like a chicken for ten minutes straight. We thought it would be good for him to stop, he thought it would be better to freak out and throw things. He also thought it would be fun to run outside at 11pm. The next day we thought a devotional time would be good, he thought punching a kid in the face was a slight improvement. The next night we did a cook out supper in the woods and all the kids were loving the outdoors action, because they are all city kids so this was really cool. We thought it was cool for them to build a fort, Josh loved the idea of hitting a kid in the stomach with a grapefruit sized rock. What he thought would top that was when he push a 7 foot log(8 inches thick) on top of another camper. This is just a small portion of the week. But I must run b/c i am on dial up. :S
